How do I rent an instrument?

You can rent an instrument through the website. All orders are completed online before the delivery of the instrument.

The first payment installment is made by bank or credit card before the transfer of the instrument’s possession.

Vuokrasoitin charges the rent monthly in advance for the following month.

Can I pick up my rented instrument in-store, or can it be shipped to my location in Finland?

You can either pick up your rented instrument from our store in Helsinki or have it shipped to your location anywhere within Finland (Unfortunately, we do not ship basses.).

If you choose to pick up the instrument from the store, we recommend making a reservation online first.

What is the rental deposit, and when will it be refunded?

The rental deposit is a refundable sum paid at the beginning of the rental period. It will be refunded in full when the rented instrument is returned to us, provided that all rents for the rental period have been paid, and the instrument is in the same condition as when it was received.

How do I choose the right size instrument for me or my child?

To choose the right size instrument, please refer to our sizing guide available on our website, which will help you determine the appropriate size based on age and arm length measurements.

You can find the sizing guide on every product page. Alternatively, you can book a time using our calendar, and we will help you choose the right size in our shop.

What is the rental credit?

Rental payments accumulate rental credit (rental payment = rental credit), which can be used within 30 days of terminating the rental contract to purchase an instrument from How Violins.

Rental credit can be used to pay for UP TO 50% of the instrument’s purchase price.

Rental credit cannot be used for purchasing bows, cases, electronic instruments, accessories, or shipping costs for instruments. The rental credit is valid for 30 days after the end of the rental agreement, after which it will be forfeited.

Can I transfer or lend the rented instrument to someone else?

No, the rented instrument is for your personal use only. Transferring or lending the instrument to someone else, even temporarily, is not allowed without our written consent.

What are the payment options for renting an instrument?

We accept payments through major credit and bank cards, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, as well as all Finnish payment cards.

What happens if the instrument gets damaged during the rental period?

If the instrument gets damaged during the rental period, please notify us immediately. You will be responsible for the repair cost or the instrument’s replacement cost, whichever is lower. In case of disappearance or destruction, you must compensate for the instrument’s new purchase price.

Do you offer any guidance or resources for beginners learning to play a rented instrument?

While we do not provide direct guidance or lessons, we recommend consulting with a music teacher to learn how to play your rented instrument. How Violins offers a free teacher portal here where you can message directly with a teacher.

Can I extend my rental period if I need more time with the instrument?

Yes, you can extend your rental period for as long as you need the instrument. The rental agreement is valid indefinitely, and you will be charged on a monthly basis.

Can I return my rented instrument early? If so, how does the return process work?

Yes, you can return your rented instrument early. To start the return process, you can terminate the open-ended rental agreement with one week’s written notice using this link.

What is included in an instrument set?

Each instrument set comes with the instrument itself, a bow, a case, and any necessary accessories, such as rosin and a shoulder rest for violins and violas.

What types of instruments are available for rent?

We offer a range of bowed stringed instruments for rent, including violins, violas, cellos, and basses.

What happens if I want to purchase the rented instrument?

The renter can buy an instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass) from How Violins Oy.

Ownership of the purchased instrument will transfer to the renter when they have

  1. Purchased the instrument,
  2. paid all accumulated rents (for all their rental contracts), and
  3. paid the instrument’s retail price.

Is insurance required for the instrument?

The renter agrees to maintain insurance covering the value of the instrument for the entire rental period, including any damages, disappearance, or destruction of the instrument.

Who is responsible for the instrument’s maintenance?

If the instrument requires maintenance, the renter must request maintenance from the lessor. Maintenance required due to normal wear and tear is free of charge.

How Violins OY maintains the instrument and either returns it or Vuokrasoitin provides another equivalent instrument for the lessee’s use.

Maintenance can be booked through the website.

The renter is not allowed to repair or attempt to repair the instrument themselves (except for changing strings). The lessor will repair any damage to the instrument after receiving notice of the damage. The renter’s obligation to pay rent does not stop during the repair period.

How can I terminate the rental agreement?

Either party can terminate an indefinite rental agreement with a one-week written notice using this link.

What is the rental period?

Unless otherwise agreed upon in writing, the rental agreement is valid indefinitely. The rental agreement is valid for a minimum of one month.

Is there a rental deposit required?

The first payment includes a rental deposit, referred to as a refundable deposit in the online store. The rental deposit will be refunded in full to the lessee when the rented instrument is returned to the lessor if:

  1. All rents for the rental period have been paid, and
  2. the instrument is in the same condition as when the lessee received possession.

The lessor has the right to retain the rental deposit as payment for unpaid rents and compensation for damages caused to the instrument.

What are the rental prices?

The monthly price for instrument rental is specified in the online store before purchase.

What happens if I return the rented instrument late?

If the instrument has not been returned within 30 days after the end of the rental period, the lessor has the right to charge the retail price of the instrument multiplied by 1.25 in addition to any accumulated rents instead of the instrument’s return requirement. The ownership of the instrument transfers to the buyer once the rents and the purchase price (multiplied by 1.25) have been paid.
